Anybody ever take the tire height to 225 60 on a 97 z3? It's about 1.7 inches in diameter greater. Thoughts? Think it'll rub? Also changing out struts and shocks. Thanks all. I need the bearded knowledge.

Thanks, at this point I'm looking for comfort alone, the extra 3/4 inch in seat height plus the seat height extension i found here should do nicely. Bigger sidewall, softer ride. I did all the "performance" stuff last z. To be honest, I don't track and these days you can't even make the speed limit. I want people to have more time to enjoy watching me.. I'm such a giver.

Not 100% sure but I think the tyre will hit the front strut lower spring seat cup.
Not recommended, sorry…..

Yeh, I was afraid of that.. 1.7 extra inches in diameter doesn't seem like a lot but is. So this is my next thought:
Set-of-4-FOUR-Accelera-Phi-R-225-50ZR16-225-50R16-96W-XL-A-S-Performance-Tires-Fits-2003-04-Po...jpg

Set of 4 Accelera 225 50 16 $280 for the set. 30k mileage tire, asymetrical.
Any thoughts? I'm trying to stay away from the $125 and up tires as I just don't drive far. Maybe 2k per year. I'm just tryin to look mahhhvalluss....

I hate to be a party pooper, sorry!
I’ve never been a lover of accelera, I think the ‘best affordable tyres’ for a Z3 are Avon ZV7
Check the tyre ratings for economy and wet use.

I'm ridiculously tired right now. No pun intended... I have made a decision I'm sure to live to regret.... 225 55 16. Fullway hp 108's same look as the accelera, good reviews and good in wet weather. Asymetrical.

Ok, once again thank you all for your input. I'm pulling my hair out and I don't have much left to give! I have made my 4th and final decision... maybe...
215 55 16. Goodyear reliant (which is what I originally bought in 225 60) $76 per tire. Now if they will only install them.
Ps shout out if you disagree. I can't afford to get this wrong. Unfortunately they don't make this in 225 50, only off brands available.

My approach is to buy the best tyres I can get (only thing between the car and the road). Currently on Michelin Pilot Sport 225/50 R16 that are excellent in all conditions and speeds. :)

I agree, I had those and a really good goodyear aqua on my last z. But that was the 2.8 manual. This is the 1.9 auto which will barely reach the speed limit (too much traffic in boston) this is now about soft ride, quiet and comfort. On a side note these asymmetrical off brands are not asymmetrical left to right like real performance asyms. Wierd.

I must have been a blonde in a previous life. Ok, I just finished rear shocks (bilstein touring), bushings and broken housing mounts. Damn it rides nice. So now that it sits correctly I'm gonna take a picture when it stops raining, and you guys chime in on whether I could use 225 60 on rears and 215 55 fronts. Same tire brand and model (goodyear reliant). Same factory 16 rim. It seems to me to have plenty of room.

Ok, Nefyn, nice calculator. So 225 60 increases all dimensions .9 inches in all directions. Should be ok in rear but will cut some blocks to check. Unfortunately I don't know what total shock travel is normal.

215 55 is only .25 inch greater so front not a problem but..... I think we lose a small bit of width on the rim. About .4 inch. I don't think this is a problem but chime in with thoughts.

Ps anyone know if the 97 z3 used tire pressure monitoring? In early versions it was triggered by unequal rotation speed of the tires. Bigger rears would trigger that.

Different size tyres front and rear will bring on the ABS light as well as putting the automatic gearbox into failsafe mode.

Balloon tyres will just look stupid and the car won't drive right. Goodyear's EfficientGrip has a good soft sidewall for ride comfort.

I had enough of that back when mine had staggered wheels and tyres on when I went to get some new tyres. They didn't have the rears so I had to run around for a couple of days with new fronts and worn-out rears, didn't like it at all. Bl**dy DSC.

I was afraid of that, ok so my choices are 225 60 or 215 55. Unfortunately the efficient grips are $300 per the relients are 75. Thoughts 60 or 55? I'm leaning 55s

Another good on is the Falken Ziex ZE310 Ecorun good ratings and a lower DB than the AV7. I've had both happy with either.
