Can you be a bit more specific as to which part, or is it the airbox that is missing that you are looking for?

Also year and engine size would be helpful.

It will likely need a donor panel to be cut from a breaker and then grafted onto you car. A less cluttered picture would be a help tbh.

By rotten do you mean the small patches of surface rust? Or is there something else going on I'm not seeing?

However rusty the turret top/inner wing is you wouldn't normally replace it unless it's structurally compromised. It's a massive job.

If you look through this thread you'll see how I resprayed my engine bay when it was looking like that. It's still rust free several years later.

Hello and thanks for everyone’s help so far, the OP is actually my uncle and I’m helping out with the car.
The part we need is not detachable and is Z3 specific.AC1C7066-090C-48EB-AC14-4C13BAB1F622.jpeg

It may look like a simple repair in the picture but the sheet metal is contoured and the rot goes past the seam sealer on the right.
The panel must be available as any z3 in a front end smash would likely need this part. Please see diagram36ECA076-8F00-428D-832F-B7DD93756A99.jpeg

The Z3 part looks like the part circled red (albeit wrong side). When I put the chassis number into real OEM it gives me a part number, when I search the part number it clearly states z3 yet shows the part circled yellow which is the equivalent part for an e36.
The main dealer has come to the same conclusion. They say that sometimes the diagrams are shared between similar models.
They also said the part was non refundable.
Can anyone shed any light on this please.
A piece cut from a donor is an option but i’d rather buy new metal.

The hole is where the earth stud for the headlight loom used to be. Under the air box, car is a 2.8 roadster.

A front end smash that compromises the panels you need, will mean the car will be written off, 100% certain. Best bet is a 2nd hand panel from a breaker and graft it in

Have you answered your own question? It is Item 3 on the diagram. Or have I missed something?

How much is it for Item 3?

I think it is Item 3 that you want (41.13.8.398.615)...

If you can afford it, you are taking the best option. Downside is that your option will need proper paint, whereas a donor part has already been painted.

So in the diagram all of the OSF parts appear as Z3, all of the NSF parts appear e36.
Yes I believe item 3 is the part I need but if it looks like it does in the diagram then it’s no good, it’s £144.95 plus VAT, it is called ‘section of left front wheel housing’ item 5 may be required also.

The drawing is misleading, as it shows some OSF parts and some NSF parts. It is the text that you need to read in order to find out what is available and their associated part numbers.

From what I can see in your photos, it looks like it is only 41138398615 that you need, but as you are unsure, I would find a salvage Z3 and attack it with a disc-cutter.

@spurs fan in a coupe has a few, but I don't know if he would want to cut the front wing off any of them until they are ready for the bin.

Another member had the same issue, he took the car to a good body-shop and they fabricated the parts, welded them in and you couldn't tell there was a problem other than a slight difference in paint.

Thanks Palmetto, your photo confirms that part 3 in my diagram looks just like your e36 and nothing like a Z3, I just find it odd that they share the same diagram for a part that looks totally different.

So if anyone is interested, I finally have an update on the part.
I took a punt and ordered the part with the Z3 part number, despite the diagram being completely wrong.
The part is right (genuine BMW) and there is much more metal than expected.
Let’s get welding.
