brake refurb kit for the M

do they still do them?
its had a new caliper on one side but im thinking of doing the other one....if one sides gone then the other cant be far behind.
anyone ever fitted the refurb kit?

If you are meaning the caliper seal kits, the part number still exists, but I've been told by various people that no-one is allowed to sell them to the general public incase they fit them wrongly.

Try your local dealer and see if he will sell you a kit.

No problem I need to get a set myself as I have a complete spare ///M brake setup which I am going to refurb.

i refurbed a set years ago...cant be that much of a job to replace seals like for like

I've done it on a couple of different cars. If you take your time and keep everything clean it is an easy job. I don't know if that refurb kit comes with grease but if it doesn't, I can recommend "Red Rubber" grease, it is custom made for brake seals, good stuff. :-bd

pete how did you remove the piston?

Done mine with a compressed air line on the brake hose, just be careful though as the piston flies out so make sure you do it with the caliper sat on the floor with the piston facing down.

Edit: there is a how to on the Big Red website that shows you the entire process.

dont have a compressed air line....any other ideas?

bought a full set of calipers for 100 quid.....so im going to do a refurb on them...they can always sit there as spare

Haven't you got a electric or manual tyre pump for that matter which should do the job. The ///M mobility pump should do the job with an air bed adapter on the end.

edit....if your going to removed the piston with a compressor be careful....f##k me did that go off :-o
make sure theres a good mile between you and any people...cars... houses or anything that would not benefit from a large hole in it

edit again....piston still in good condition after being retrieved from half way to manchester....no corrosion .....seal inside is good but have wrecked the dust boot .

Put a block of wood in the gap. The piston will jam against the wood. Then use gradually thinner blocks until you can get the piston out by hand.
