Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing a CD autochanger as a period upgrade to my Z3.

There are images out there of them mounted in the boot. The CD changer looks to be attached to a bracket that then attaches to the car. In these the CD changer is left exposed in the boot.

On my Z3 things look a little different: There is a flap in the carpet where the CD auto changer would fit. If I open the flap there seems to be a metal mounting cage in there plus the cable that would attach to the CD changer. The carpet flap I would assume would used to access the CD changer cassette?

I can't seem to find any examples out there with the carpet flap I have.

Are the CD changers the same accross the Z3 range or different for the different mounting methods?

Any advice appreciated!

Regards,

Nick

Had the Z3 out of store yesterday to go for an MOT (which it passed with no advisories - yeah!) Also had a replacement stereo to fit that has a good display and look futher in to what I mentioned above. Behind the stereo, I found the cable below:

This cable goes to the boot where the CD changer would sit and is terminated in a similar DIN connector. As said above, a flap has been created in the area above where the standard BMW CD changer would fit as shown below:

Inside the flap is a tray that I would imagine would have housed a CD changer:

Not sure if the bracket is a custom made item?

I have seen for sale on e-bay a 10 disc Sony CDX-601 CD changer removed from a Z3 and wondered if this may be what may have been fitted here?

I would like to fit an original BMW 6 disc changer (which I have) but looks like a need a replacement carpet section, plus the structure that the BMW changer bracket fasterns to. The original CD changer cable from the BMW stereo is still in place, so should work.

Just wondered if anyone has seen this before, or if you have a carpet piece and the original CD changer mounting bracket that would fit inside the carpet section.

Thanks for any help.

I’m pretty sure I can get you a mounting bracket and carpet, where you based?

Great, let me know what you find. Not adverse to a bit of a road trip to collect.

I have the carpet piece with the cut-out for the changer. I don't have the changer anymore so would happily do a swap for one without ( as long as yours is in good nick).

I don't know if there are any differences in the boot carpet pieces, but mine is a 2001 and the carpet is grey.

Hi Pond,

I am also looking to get rid of the carpet with the flap and replace it with one without. What I am looking to achieve is below:

I will have to dig mine out of the shed, but I don't think mine looks like the picture.

To me your picture looks like the original carpet that my car came with. It had an autochanger but that carpet is still in there. It looks just like that - except your picture seems to have the sliding cover on the changer missing. I never saw one with the flap - is the flap something that somebody has done themselves?

The picture is not of my CD changer - it is one I found on the net to serve as an example. I think the flap on mine was created to house a Sony CDX autochanger.
