Locked out of the boot...

I did put back the lock, but after a few use, the boot won't open anymore, I suspect I hadn't been convincing enough in putting back the latch arm for the lock!

Anyway, I drilled the hole thru the panel, but I can't seem to 'shift' the piece of metal behind it to the 'left' as it's described in a few places on google and on this forum. Should I drill thru /that/ ?

Any advise?

It’s not quite in the middle which may not be helping.

You shouldn’t need to drill into the assembly itself. But you might need a slightly larger hole to work through and swing the tool around.
