Talking about number plates. Years ago I worked at a Chrysler garage and my mate who was workshop foreman hated fitting number plates to new cars on pdi. He spent ages getting them level, central etc. One day when he went home for lunch the manager and I took off one he had fitted and turned it upside down. When he saw it after lunch he went ballistic, it took a long time to calm him down!

It represents the month of August. That's when he tells his wife he's going on an extended business trip which is really his vacation (holiday) with his girlfriend. FWO 4 WAY = FORGET WEDDING OATH 4 WEEKS A YEAR

The woman across the road bought a brand new Kia something or other, and the plate on that was stuck on crooked. Every time I look out the front window I can see the damn thing, drives me potty...

I would do, but there was a stupid argument a while back, so they shun me. Back when I had 2 cars, I would park one on the road outside my house so I could wash the other more easily. He thought it was parked in a way that made it difficult for his 85 year old mother in law to park on his drive.

To be honest he caught me at the wrong time, and I was in a really bad mood. I suggested if his mother in law couldn't park her car (and there was adequate room to get past) she shouldn't be driving at all. That for some reason annoyed him. He keeps scowling at me ever since.

I had an 87 Ford F-150 pick-up. It was parked in front of a rental house I owned. While I was in the house, a lady knocked on the door. When I answered, she told me she broke her mirror on the frame of my side view mirror. She wanted me to pay for the repairs. She said it sticks out too far and broke her mirror as she drove past it. I told her it wasn't my fault. She said she would tell her husband. I looked at her and with the most serious face I could muster. told her she could do what she wanted but if I were her, under no circumstances would I tell my husband that I ran into a parked truck. Tell him that you went shopping and that when you came back to the car, the mirror was broken. I never heard from them again.

Its never seen here. Plates are pre-drilled and the holes automatically line up with the fasteners already made on the back of the car. How is it there? Do you have to drill holes in the plates? How about the car. No pre drilled holes with fasteners? And whats with the spacing of the letters? Can people alter the spacing if they know who to pay? Frankie==from work.

Frankie, unlike in the states, we are given a random registration number and some people buy a " personalised" plate. However, to make the plate look like they what it, they have to "space" the letters / numbers. This is illegal and subject to a £60 fine and 3 penalty points on your licence.
Number plates are not pre- drilled and sometimes, like mine, they are stuck on.

Frankie, it's exactly as Macca says, which is why you see crooked plates here in the UK.

Thanks, boys. I remember on a previous occasion, you guys explained about the plates you got for your cars and the personal plates you could pay extra for. Here, while each state issues their own plates, there might be a federal law or standard agreement on the size and configuration for attachment. I would think then, in Europe, with every country making their own plates. variations occur between manufacturing processes and country requirements, so that car manufactures can't standardize attachment methods leaving each country to fend for themselves.
I have to admit that I was quite surprised at the adverse reaction many members of the forum had at the sight of this Audi with the crooked plate and incorrectly spaced numbers. Driving home, the devil kicked my mind into overdrive. I imagined that there were a few guests on the forum that read everything. I imagined that several of these guests got together and decided to go to Silverstone with BMWs with plates that were attached very poorly and were able to fix it so they would drive around the track directly in front of our forum members so that they couldn't possibly miss all these poorly attached tags. It would drive the forum members nuts and they would react adversely. People watching from the grandstands would notice this, not realizing the motivation for their reactions and start whispering among themselves: "What a rowdy bunch that zroadster .org group is!!!!

Then again, never having been to Silverstone at all, let alone with our members, perhaps there will be members who read this and say:' Hell, we don't need crooked plates to make us rowdy!"
