If I was to supercharge my low mileage 1998 2.8 would there be other considerations involved? Apart from the standard issues like upgrading the cooling system what other upgrades would be wise with a supercharger? Are there downsides to a supercharger? Resale value? Negative effects on the engine or frame?

Cooling is not a problem.
Problem is packaging in a Z3, there’s a couple of pre made options available, but they’re ugly as sin. I’ve tried an m62 down where the air con compressor would go on my 1.9. It makes for a nasty routing situation for pipework into the charger and into the intercooler. I imagine it would be worse with the extra length of the 6 cylinder.
One of the belt driven turbo/superchargers would be the ideal setup, but those things are not cheap. Even the odd time they come up s/h they’re usually close to £1500.

Brakes. A supercharger will take your 2.8 to circa 285bhp. Not cheap though, around £4k I believe.
