Looking at where you are staying. I would be tempted to go up to Middleton in Teesdale and on to Alston then go up over Hartside back down to Tan hill. Great cafe and food at the Hartside Cafe Cornbeef pie is fab

Had a brilliant day on the north Yorkshire roads that Toby recommended.
No hold ups on the motorways getting up here for a change and once we got onto the B roads there wasn't too much traffic and it was easy to buzz past the odd micra or caravan.
Was busy around the Ribble viaduct so couldn't stop there for photos.
Talking of pics,the WiFi here isn't great so I'll post some pics when we get home.
Thanks for recommending that route @billz but we have to head home tomorrow and it looks like that could be a long day,another time though hopefully.
