I got a set of quickjacks for Xmas - they were on offer recently at Costco with £400 off.

A bit of a faff to set up, but all working and lift the car to a useful height whilst being easy to store.

Only issue now is that I've had a good look under the car and want to start restoring bits...

Prices for the scissor lifts like @t-tony and myself have certainly gone up since we got ours, mine came from this Dealer who trades on ebay, I had a better deal going via his Web site so at that time cost me around £1200. I do like the lift, I have scaffold board ramps either side so the cars can be driven over the lift, mine remains static in my garage, Tony has space to relocate his outside the garage if needed for full height work, The lift comes with an assortment of lifting inserts that fit on the lift arms so you can achieve better clearance between the lift and the car if extra space is needed to do work.

Good call on the Quickjack system. Easy to use and store when not in use. Don't forget to purchase a set of BMW rubber lifting blocks

Does anybody think these would work on a slightly sloping driveway? About 10 degrees ish, if the front of the jack was lifted on a block to level it before lifting? or are they dependant on the base being in in contact with the ground all along its length.
And if that does work could the sills on Z3 be removed with it where it is?

Any lifting device is supposed to be installed on a flat, level surface for safety. @Jack Ratt

Should always be used on a level surface with the footprint of the jack in contact with the ground.
Using the quick jack system or the scissor lift myself and @t-tony have it would be wise to use an extended lift pad that sits in the plastic jack supports on the underside of the sills so they can be slid out with the car supported. The sills have a cut out that slides under the plastic jacking points so clearance between the sill and the jack is desirable to slide them out and access the screw/bolts along the lower edge of the sill.

I bought myself this one - works off either a supplier hand winder (Like a car starting lever) and/or fittings to use an electric or battery operated drill.

Finally got around to using my scissor lift jack - well impressed! It takes practice to find the centre of the car, weight wise - I was about 4 inches too far forward, but was still able to lift/tilt by hand to get jack stands under the rear.

Images below are from my garage at about half lift, after draining/filling the diff. Excuse the mess!

Note the old bonnet cover - fantastic for laying on!! SO comfortable!! ;-)

£429 + delivery, but bought on an ebay sale discount day so I got it about £50 cheaper I think.

Pro's -
lifts very well
Easily fits any of my cars on the adjustable platforms
very stable to a good working height.
Low cost.

Cons -
Advertised as able to lift using drill power - my battery drill did not have the oomph to do it so relied on 14mm socket and a ratchet, took ages but worked really well. (Council garage no power)
**There is a front and a back, ie to drive onto it, otherwise it will roll away from you... the mechanics/driver should be furthest away as you drive onto it.
You really need a ramp - I used 4 scrap pieces of 8x2 laid at front and back to reduce the step up.

Sadly, to do the sills, I would need to strip them down before lifting as the bolts are covered by the lifting platforms... as previously mentioned - an extendable platform to reach the jacking points would help with this.

Verdict - excellent piece of kit! Definitely recommended.

Did you get one made locally or make it yourself?

I suppose it is easy enough to lift it up on the standard platform, place jacks in the corner jack points and then lower it down to give clearance for the sills.

My scissor lift came with a selection of height extensions that slide onto the four lift arms to increase the gap between lift and car.
