I have a 2001 2.2 Z3 uk spec

I do not have any warning lights on the dash but when I scan using a fault code reader there are 2 codes
12 signal camshaft sensor exhaust
3E activation solenoid valve secondary air
Would really appreciate if anyone could help me with the following questions
1. As the MIL light is not on why are these 2 codes showing in the ecu
2. The camshaft code is clear but I don’t understand the secondary air code. Any ideas ?
3. Is there is list somewhere which gives a code description based on the 2 character identifier ie in my case 12 & 3E
Would be very grateful or any info

They are not active. Probably your scanner checks the shadow memory.
the 3E activation solenoid valve is stupid thing that injects air to the exhaust for some seconds and thats all.
The 12 one is a bit of a puzzle. Could be bad timing, crappy sensor or a start engine that went bad and the dme was not happy.
i wouldnt worry about them if the car runs fine.

Really appreciate your feedback thank you
Do you think if the sensor is faulty it would show as a real fault and illuminate the MIL
What’s your opinion on non BMW sensors for the cam sensor

OEM only for the cam sensor. Cam sensor failure often does not throw a code IMO.

Even if the aftermarket one is Bosch
Quick look at the prices and Bosch is about £25 the OEM sensor looks to be £130 ish ( need to confirm)

Your codes could be historic first thing is clear them run the car for a bit see if they return before you start messing about with stuff sensors generally original or very good quality i personally would be happy to use the Bosch sensor as they probably make the original one for Bmw .
