Hi guys, potential new owner. I've been looking at e85 convertibles. Still undecided between the 3.0 m54 or n52. Only other experience I've had in a BMW is I used to own a 130i.

Is there a buyers guide anywhere? Is the m54 oil pump nut really that much of an issue and if so would the Hopwood Motorsport uprated oil pump be any good. The car will mainly be used for fast road/ with the occasional track day.

Thanks in advance

Not that I can see, however, I'm sure some of the many E85 will be along to help.

I've had my M54-engined 330ci for 15 years and the sump nut hasn't come undone. I checked it with a torque wrench when I changed the sump gasket and the wrench clicked before it budged. I'm sure it can happen, but it doesn't really happen that often. I don't track it though, so although it's had some redline D-road drives through France it hasn't seen the same use as a track car.

Cheers for the reply, I'm still weighing up the options between that an the n52 cost between the two Vs getting the oil pump sorted early doors. Yeah a bit of back roads, against using something on track is still quite different. Hopefully someone comes along with some experience and the particular pump I mentioned in original post
