Z3 software update

Hi all,

instead of my local specialist, on advice, I took my Z3 to a main dealer. I had a persistent amber EML which cleared post work to fix an air leak however it came back less than 150 miles later. The specialist said it needed a software update and I should take it to a main dealer for this (and at the same time they could diagnose the EML).

I have done this and £350 later, have a new air flow sensor and a dealer health check. They decided not to carry out the update however as they said it was not necessary.

This is out of my comfort zone, but how concerned (if at all) should I be with having the latest software update on my 01 2.2?

Thanks.

I'm not aware of any software upgrade as such for the Z3. Others may know differently.

I have a 2002 - 2.2 Z3 and it has never entered my mind to have a software update, or even to check and see if one is available. If the car is running fine, then I'd leave it as it is.
Hope that helps offer some reassurance.

I have owned my 2002, 2.2 Z3 for nearly 10 years and like Ian have never heard about a software update for it. Until now. Do you know specifically which module the local specialist was talking about?

I know the main dealer did acknowledge there was an update for the car, however informed me that it wouldn’t affect it. The issue I had was down to a non standard air flow sensor (fitted by a previous owner) apparently. As such they changed this and told me not to worry about the update.

I think, based on this thread, I can forget about it.

Thanks

Sounds like an odd statement to me. Given the age of our cars, not sure what value/knowledge main dealers will have. I would suggest find a good indy going forward.

Not aware of any updates available for the Z3 but have heard mention of an update applied to M44 for rough idle problems, never seen any official reference to this or others. Think you got stung with the price you paid for what they did, oem Maf's are expensive but take only a short time to fit and diagnostics a matter of plugging in and taking a look. Hope you got an oil and filter change included in the price you paid.
